Rocket League runs free in-game tournaments every day, with several start times in each region. Each competitive tournament is a single-elimination bracket of up to 32 teams matched by skill, so you only keep playing for as long as you keep winning, with a Second Chance bracket for teams knocked out in the first round. Tournaments are held for Standard three against three, for Doubles two against two and for Extra Modes. A tournament boost buys you a set number of tournament wins, or the title you want, played by a verified booster.
Tournaments have their own ranking that is separate from the ranks you hold in the competitive playlists. The first time you enter, the game places you at a tournament rank based on your most recent competitive rank, and the ladder uses the same names from Bronze up to Supersonic Legend. From then on your tournament results decide where you stand. This is why a player of any competitive rank can in principle earn any tournament title, as long as the tournaments at that level are won.
Getting past the first round of a tournament earns Tournament Credits, and the further you go in the bracket the more you collect. Tournaments at a higher rank pay out larger rewards, and your Top Three Weekly Placements add bonus credits on top, with that weekly count resetting every Sunday. Credits are spent on Cups, which open into customization items such as wheels, decals and goal explosions. The Cups come in four levels, starting with the Prospect Cup, and the higher ones only unlock after strong results in higher-ranked tournaments.
Winning a tournament gives you a title that shows the rank of the tournament you won. Winning three tournaments of a similar rank during one season upgrades it to a coloured title at that rank, which is the version most players want to show in the lobby. Because titles are tied to the season, the chase starts again each time a new one begins. A tournament boost lets you order the exact result you are aiming for, whether that is a single win, a run of wins or the coloured title itself.
