Every ranked match charges an entry cost in RP before it pays anything back. Placement carries most of the payout; kills and assists top it up, and a chicken dinner pays best of all, but a quiet top-five finish beats a loud early death by a wide margin.

A placement match is scored no differently from that formula, which is exactly why it matters so much: five results decided purely by where you finish set the number every later match in the season is added to or subtracted from.

Boosters play placements for the finish first and take the kills that come to them on the way, which is the opposite of how most solo-queue players approach the season opener — and it is why five professionally-played matches routinely land a higher starting RP than five self-played ones.

A rank boost is priced by distance: the more divisions between the current rank and the target, the more matches it takes to close the gap. Placement matches set the starting point of that distance, which means the order you buy them in changes what the rank boost actually costs.

Buy the placements first and the account opens the season at the highest RP those five matches can produce, so a rank boost bought afterward starts closer to the target and finishes faster. Buy the rank boost first and any ground the placements would have covered for free gets paid for at the rank boost’s rate instead.

The two orders chain cleanly and the same booster can usually take both back to back, so there is no waiting between the placements landing and the climb starting.

Rank Boost picks up once the five placements have landed, closing every division and tier between the account and the target — including a run at Master or Survivor, if that is the goal.

Survival Mastery Boost handles the account-wide progression track. Level 80 is the gate that unlocks ranked at all, so an account below it needs this order before placement matches mean anything.
